Archery For The Beginner
Written by Mike on August 31, 2008 – 9:18 am -Before starting archery you should decide on the type of archery you wish to do, target shooting or bowhunting. Make sure you have somewhere safe to shoot, that the archery equipment is adequate for it’s intended purpose and you have a qualified instructor with you.
With proper instruction you will learn very quickly how to shoot a bow and arrow. Becoming proficient at it will take longer depending upon your attitude and determination. There are numerous clubs and archery associations dotted throughout the United States where you can find out more information.
A local archery shop will advise on clubs that are in your area, many will have an internet website where you can find out further information. Through these clubs you will be able to attend archery competitions and events to compete with other archers. As a beginner you will find that most local clubs will have seperate divisions for new members so you will be able to compete against other competitors of the near the same skill level.
If you are still undecided whether archery is for you or not then it’s possible that you can rent equipment from a local retailer. This will give you a good idea what type of bow you want, a compound bow, recurve bow, crossbow or longbow, and whether target shooting or bowhunting is for you. The equipment can be rented by the day or hour so it doesn’t have to be expensive.
