I hurt my collarbone using a compound bow, is this a result of bad form, how can I correct it?

Written by Jaz on November 2, 2009 – 9:24 am -

Jaz asked: I got a compound bow for my birthday, its a 55 pound draw, and I’m pretty new to archery. I went out and shot as many arrows as I could for a couple days. My right collarbone began hurting soon afterwards (I’m right handed) and I’m trying to figure out if its a result of bad form or if ‘m just sore from using different muscles to shoot the bow.  Read More →

Are there any laws against shipping a compound bow across state lines?

Written by tallboy on September 7, 2008 – 1:41 am -

I left my bow back in Kansas, thinking there would be nowhere to shoot in San Fransisco. I have now found a really great target course and want to use my bow. As it would be shipped without arrows and unstrung would I still have to fill out a permit? Or get a licence for it? Also could you tell me if compound bows have to be licenced in California?  Read More →

Compound Or Recurve

Written by Mike on September 1, 2008 – 8:21 am -

Selecting which bow to use is something only you can decide. It is a good idea to try both types first to give you a feeling for the bow that suits you best. The recurve bow is used in competition and hunting as is the compound bow and is the more traditional bow. The recurve bow has less moving parts than the compound bow and is easier to tune and maintain. The main downside is it’s ‘draw weight’ where the full strength of the bow must be held by the fingers, this requires a degree of strength to properly control the bow. The compound bow is the standard bow used for hunting, and allows the archer to have more power at his/her finger tips with a lot less effort than other bow types because of a series of cables and pulleys. Because... more

What Is A Compound Bow?

Written by Mike on August 24, 2008 – 1:52 pm -

A compound bow is a modern bow that utilizes a levering system, with cables and pulleys, to bend the limbs. It is usually the preferred bow for hunting. The compound bow uses very stiff limbs that can operate with greater energy efficiency than those with less stiff limbs. This limb stiffness makes the compound bow extremely energy efficient, but as the limbs are too stiff to be drawn comfortably with a string attached directly to them the compound bow has the string attached to pulleys, that have one or more cables attached to the opposite limb. When the string is drawn back, the string causes the pulleys to turn causing the pulleys to pull the cables, which in turn causes the limbs to bend and so store energy. The use of this levering system... more
